6/4/25 Juneau Alaska

Juneau is the the capital of alaska… We have been here once more than a decade ago and it did not changed much, the old town, the Mendenhall Glacier and the crazy tourism

Pulling into Juneau early in the morning
Juneau seaside town
Mendenhall Glacier

We went for a whale watch excursion this time and it’s very cool…. To experience the environment that whales lives and fed

They said if we didn’t see whale, we will have our money back..  So of course we saw lots of whales
Hey guys… Our turn to sun bath….
Beautiful day in the natural habitat of Whales
We kept seeing the bald eagle everywhere here but failed to take a good picture of it

6/3/28 Skagway Alaska

The Port of Skagway has train tracks right along with it

Skagway was a key important town during the Klondike gold rush(1896-1899)… We are going to retrace the steps via the white pass Yukon gold rush train which climbs from sea level to 3000 feet in just 20 miles

Before there’s train, they climb 3000 feet to get to the summit and then traverse 500+ mile via lake to get to gold
P taking pics while warming his fingers at the heating stove

Afterwards, the train unload us right in the middle of the small town of Skagway and thats when we felt the bitter coldness and windyness of the town…. The coldest we have experienced since we arrived in Alaska 14 days ago

Cheers Skagway 🥂, we are not here for gold but we are glad we found spruce tip beer

They brought in some 5 week old Iditarod puppies to the ship and it almost cost a stampede at the piazza

The two puppies names are bacon and egg…

6/2/25 Glacier bay scenic cruise

So today we are going to visit our 4th Alaska national park and this time we do not even need to leave the ship… The ship bring us to the park, even the rangers comes to our ship “the pirate way” (through small boat and via ladders)

They gave talks and commentaries and also  let us stamp our national park passport

The air is generally kind of murky but it occasionally opened up a little for us to see some greens and blues
Cheers Glacier bay… It’s not quite 3 pm yet but we feel like a drink 😉

6/1/25 1st Sea day from Whittier to Skagway

On our left was a small strip of rainbow.. On our right was the sun hidden in clouds

So happy to be back on the ship again since  last October… 7 months break from the endless horizon view

Today is technically a sea day but it’s a scenic cruise sea day…. We are checking out and getting close to Hubbard Glacier and can hear the ice caving…

Wonderful to be able to see all these from the comfort of your cabin

5/31/25 From Copper river to Valdez and then Whittier to board the ship

Today is the last day of our land tour… Feeling bitter sweet about it..  Don’t want to say goodbye to all these spectacular inland Alaska landscapes but looking forward to not packing and unpacking for 7 days straight

Sunrise scene outside our window this morning

The drive from copper river to Valdez leads us through the beautiful Thompson pass where we can’t tell the difference between Glacier and snow…. its epic gorgeousness… One minute you are in the mountains amongst the Glacier at 3000 feet above sea level…. the next you are at sea level with huge water falls

The sea side town of Valdez, though plaqued with various unfortunate incidences in history looks peaceful and untouched..

So we were here in Valdez to board a catamaran and sail to Whittier through the beautiful prince William sound… The journey goes on….. All these never ending beauty of alaska just keeps on unfolding in front of us

Bald eagle standing guard at the Valdez port
Whale, sea lion and paffin sighting
Marking pole on where Exxon Valdez incidence happened
Beautiful Blackstone bay
Our ship awaits at the Whittier port
Cheers to completing the land part of the tour 🥂

5/30/25 Copper river, exploring Wrengell St. Elias National Park

Pop quiz, what is the largest national park in US? it is this little known one that we are checking out today…. Wrengell St. Elias National Park and reserve is 13.2 million acres and it’s bigger than Yellowstone, Yosemite and Switzerland combined…

Tour the Visitor center first to get our national park stamped first…

In the afternoon we joined a tour via  a scenic van ride and interpretive discussion with a professional naturalist guide. This tour is operated by local nonprofit Wrangell Institute for Science and Environment (WISE) and left us with a sense of peace and awe.. WISE’s educational programs, which cultivate observational skills, understanding of nature and stewardship ethics.

Local celebrities Arctic lupin and ptamigan
Spruce tips are very tasty… I probably ate 20 of these
They took us to their reserve’s rustic camp where we touched skins and skulls of local wildlife… Including big grizzly bears.. And our guide Jen did it in such a respectful gentle way
Our wonderful guides Jen and Cecilia, there’s only two participants in today’s tour so it became a private tour and we can really go deep into subjects..  Jen is a real frontier women who’s originally from Michigan and now she’s a bona fide frontier woman… Homestead, dog sled, hunting, parking preservation. Youth education….
Back from windy and cold wilderness to our warm lodge… Cheers to our wonderful stay here 🥂

5/29/25 Motocoached from Kenai to Copper River

It’s hard to say goodbye to this…
…. And this…… They called Oliver “the boss” at the lodge

Stopped by the town of Palmer where they held the annual alaska state fair and have lunch… Checked out the local stores and they are delightful

Restroom art inside the bookstore

The drive in the afternoon is also spectacularly beautiful with views of the  matanuska Glacier

A Glacier that winds through the valleys
Our driver and…
Our tour director… Who managed every single detail all through the land tour… Amazing team 🙌🙌
we were randomly selected as guests of the day and got a decorated door.   This is new 🤩….
Cheers!!

5/28/25 Kenai Fjords National Park hike and historic Seward

Morning’s highlight is the view outside the breakfast hall and Oliver the lodge dog bathing in the sun at the lobby

Journey along Alaska’s only National Scenic Byway

Passed by Lake tern on the way

and take a trip into the historic seaside town of Seward…

Rock fish burger and grilled rock fish

The highlight is checking out the Alaska sea life center…

Tuq the harbor seal is following the movement of my feet
This thing clasp to your finger and won’t let go…… Sea urchins too… They hugged you with other  spikes when your fingers touched one spike

Next stop is to explore Exit Glacier, located within Kenai Fjords National Park, on a guided 2.2 mile hike.

See the two climbers on the Glacier
The shrinking Glacier… But also proof that we are still in the ice age 🤔

5/27/25 Traveling from Talkeetna to Kenai today via motorcoach… Stopped by Anchorage

Woke up to a misty cold morning

Stopped at an Iditarod Sled dog race headquarters and experienced our first sled dog ride….. Super fun!! The dogs are super excited to run in a group and in races!!

Didn’t know there’s two different types of husky until today 😆

Lunch and free time at Anchorage downtown… 30% of Alaskan population lives here …

After lunch we drove on the Seward highway (one of the voted most scenic highway in Northern America) alongside the Turn again arm water way…. Alaska really have never ending moving feast of gorgeous sceneries every where…. I can’t believe sometimes in the middle of all these beauty, I dozed off…. 😜

The lodge was nestled in the woods with wood burning stoves in each cabin!! We immediately felt relax and warm and happy
Tonight’s dinner… There’s also prime rib, but forgot to take a Pic

We are going to spend the night at the cabin, not check out any trails…just focus on keeping the fire lit and crackling

5/26/25 Talkeetna Alaska

Signed up for the Devils canyon adventure via jetboat… True Alaskan river experience…. A river excursion on the Susitna River and into the devil’s gorge which is a class v whitewater

It’s a very unique experience to be right there in front of a class v white water on a jet Boat with all these water rushing towards you
This walk is part of the jetboat excursion
Happy hour while waiting for the mountain to reveal itself
